The Powell River region is set to grow at an exponential rate over the next few years. Already real estate trends are showing that retirees and young families from large urban centres are choosing Powell River as a place to relocate to. In interviews conducted with people who have settled in the Powell River region in the last three years, the major factors influencing their decision included:

• The availability of modern health services and facilities
• The wide range and availability of affordable housing and property
• The overall safety (low crime rate) and cleanliness of the region
• The ready access to nature and superb outdoor recreational amenities
• The wide range of shopping, restaurants and business services

• The region’s moderate year-round climate [We get 1900 hours per year of sunlight and have an average year-round temperature of 9˚C (50˚F). The summer temperature range is from 18˚ to 30˚C (65˚ to 90˚F)]

Other attributes of the region that were mentioned included excellent schools, the availability of post secondary education, and the ability to lead an active and involved life in the community.

The Powell River region is an interesting mix of urban and rural. Although the beautiful natural setting is the region's most startling feature, it does offer modern amenities like a new full service hospital; two post secondary education institutions in Camber College and Malaspina University-College; a wide range of retail stores and services; an above par recreational complex; an airport that offers multiple flights and destinations; and a solid telecommunications infrastructure, including High Speed Internet service.
